Thank you for your interest in joining the Behavioral Medicine and Integrated Primary Care SIG!

MISSION
  • The purpose of the BMED/IPC SIG is to disseminate information to members on current behavioral research and practice regarding health promotion (e.g., HIV prevention, smoking cessation, exercise) and the treatment of medical problems (e.g., chronic pain, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes). Moreover, the BMED/IPC SIG seeks to promote work that mitigates health disparities, dismantles racism and other forms of systemic oppression, and promotes racial and other forms of equity in health and healthcare. In addition, the SIG aims to integrate resources (e.g., consultation, intervention materials) to facilitate the treatment of psychosocial problems within primary care and other healthcare settings.

  • The primary goal of the BMED/IPC SIG is to strengthen the membership and scope of ABCT byproviding a forum for researchers, scientists, and clinicians, from a variety of professional backgrounds, to discuss the use of behavioral and cognitive therapies research and practice to promote prevention, treatment, and recovery for persons with chronic medical conditions, as well as to support work from a public health perspective.

  • Finally, the SIG also seeks to provide a forum for networking for behavioral medicine-focused and primary care-based behavioral and cognitive therapy practitioners, professionals, and researchers.
